Abstract

The development of digital media has transformed the distribution and consumption of information in society, but it has also raised concerns regarding accuracy and balance in news content. In this context, public broadcasting institutions play an important role as independent information providers oriented toward the public interest. This study aims to analyze the role of Radio Republik Indonesia Purwokerto as a public media institution in accommodating and voicing the aspirations of the Banyumas community in the digital era. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with journalists, participatory observation during an internship program, documentation of broadcast archives, and interviews with community members featured in news reports. The findings show that Radio Republik Indonesia Purwokerto implements its public service function by delivering public-oriented information, providing participatory spaces through interactive programs, and highlighting local socio-economic issues. Editorial processes are conducted systematically through issue selection and news verification to ensure accuracy and balance. Digital transformation has expanded broadcast reach without shifting its public service mandate. This study confirms the continued relevance of public media in supporting democratic communication at the local level.
