ABSTRACT Studies on the modernization of Islamic education in Indonesia have been widely conducted; however, most remain focused on historical aspects or discuss the role of particular Islamic organizations separately. Consequently, the collective contribution of Islamic organizations in transforming education through institutional reform, curriculum development, and educational management has not been comprehensively examined. This study is important to understand how Islamic organizations function as agents of change in maintaining the relevance of Islamic education amid contemporary developments. The study aims to analyze the role of Islamic organizations, particularly Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Persatuan Tarbiyah Islamiyah (PERTI), and Persatuan Islam (Persis), in the modernization of Islamic education in Indonesia. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach using library research by reviewing books, scientific journals, and relevant literature. Data were analyzed descriptively and analytically to identify the contributions of Islamic organizations to educational transformation. The findings reveal that Islamic organizations have significantly contributed to educational modernization through the establishment of formal educational institutions, integration of religious and general curricula, innovation in learning methods, and implementation of more structured educational administration and management systems. Muhammadiyah tends to promote a modern education model based on knowledge integration, while NU maintains traditional pesantren values alongside modern educational adaptation. PERTI and Persis also contribute through the development of madrasah and more systematic Islamic educational systems. These findings confirm that Islamic organizations play a strategic role in improving the quality, accessibility, and relevance of Islamic education while contributing to the national education system. ABSTRAK Kajian mengenai modernisasi pendidikan Islam di Indonesia telah banyak dilakukan, namun sebagian besar masih berfokus pada aspek historis atau hanya membahas peran organisasi Islam tertentu secara parsial. Padahal, kontribusi berbagai organisasi Islam dalam mendorong transformasi pendidikan melalui pembaruan kelembagaan, kurikulum, dan sistem pengelolaan pendidikan belum banyak dikaji secara komprehensif. Penelitian ini penting dilakukan untuk memahami bagaimana organisasi Islam berperan sebagai agen perubahan dalam mempertahankan relevansi pendidikan Islam terhadap perkembangan zaman. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis peran organisasi Islam, khususnya Muhammadiyah, Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), Persatuan Tarbiyah Islamiyah (PERTI), dan Persatuan Islam (Persis), dalam proses modernisasi pendidikan Islam di Indonesia. Penelitian menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian kepustakaan (library research) melalui telaah buku, jurnal ilmiah, dan berbagai sumber literatur yang relevan. Analisis data dilakukan secara deskriptif-analitis untuk mengidentifikasi bentuk kontribusi organisasi Islam terhadap perubahan sistem pendidikan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa organisasi-organisasi Islam berkontribusi signifikan dalam modernisasi pendidikan melalui pendirian lembaga pendidikan formal, integrasi kurikulum agama dan ilmu umum, pembaruan metode pembelajaran, serta penerapan sistem administrasi dan manajemen pendidikan yang lebih terstruktur. Muhammadiyah cenderung mengembangkan model pendidikan modern berbasis integrasi ilmu, sedangkan NU mempertahankan tradisi pesantren dengan mengadaptasi unsur pendidikan modern. PERTI dan Persis turut berperan dalam pengembangan madrasah dan sistem pendidikan Islam yang lebih sistematis. Temuan ini menegaskan bahwa organisasi Islam memiliki peran strategis dalam meningkatkan kualitas, akses, dan relevansi pendidikan Islam sekaligus memberikan kontribusi terhadap perkembangan sistem pendidikan nasional.
