This study aims to analyze the use of picture story media in improving the reading interest of second-grade students at SD Negeri 117865 AFD IV Perkebunan Berangir. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. Data were collected through interviews with the second-grade teacher, questionnaires distributed to students, and documentation of learning activities. The results indicate that prior to the use of picture story media, students’ reading interest was relatively low, as shown by limited enthusiasm and boredom during reading activities. After the implementation of picture story media, students’ reading interest improved significantly, reflected in increased motivation, enthusiasm, and active participation in reading lessons. Picture story media help students understand reading texts more easily through attractive visual support that matches the developmental characteristics of lower-grade elementary students. In addition, the learning atmosphere became more enjoyable and interactive. Based on the findings from interviews and questionnaires, it can be concluded that picture story media are effective learning tools for enhancing reading interest among second-grade elementary school students.
