The degree of pain in Low Back Pain (LBP) can be measured using a measuring tool, namely the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). VAS is a tool to measure the degree of pain using a horizontal line that describes the scale of pain felt by the patient. Several studies have stated that excess body weight can be a factor that aggravates the severity of pain in LBP patients. This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between excess body weight and the degree of pain in low back pain patients. This is an observational analytical study with a cross-sectional study design in LBP patients at the Neurology Clinic of RSUD Banten. Measurements were made on Body Mass Index (BMI) and pain levels using a Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Data analysis used a chi-square statistical test. Among the 126 respondents, 66.3% were overweight and 78% experienced moderate-to-severe LBP. There was no statistically significant association between body weight status and the severity of low back pain (p= 0.129). The odds ratio (OR) obtained was 1.968 with a 95% confidence interval of 0.815 to 4.753. There was no significant association between excess body weight and pain severity in LBP patients. Analysis of other factors such as history of pain medication use, chronic disease, onset, and physical activity is needed.
