Abstract

Background: Joint pain is one of the common complaints experienced by menopausal women due to degenerative processes and hormonal changes, particularly decreased estrogen levels, which affect the musculoskeletal system. This condition can lead to limited physical activity, reduced independence, and decreased quality of life. Management of joint pain does not always require pharmacological treatment but can also be addressed through non-pharmacological approaches such as physical exercise, which has been proven to be safe and effective. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of physical exercise on joint pain intensity among menopausal women Method: This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A sample of 33 menopausal women was selected using a purposive sampling technique. Joint pain intensity was measured using the Numerical Rating Scale (NRS). The physical exercise intervention was conducted twice a week for six weeks. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to compare pretest and posttest joint pain intensity scores. Result: Before the intervention, most respondents experienced moderate joint pain, while after the intervention the majority experienced mild pain. The Wilcoxon test showed a significant decrease in joint pain intensity after physical exercise, with a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Physical exercise is effective in reducing joint pain intensity among menopausal women. It can be used as an alternative non-pharmacological intervention and is recommended to be implemented routinely in community health programs. Health workers and families are encouraged to support regular exercise to maintain joint function and improve the quality of life of menopausal women.
