Cooperatives are one of the economic institutions that play a strategic role in efforts to empower the community's economy. The principles of togetherness, kinship, and member participation make cooperatives a forum capable of strengthening the community's economy, especially small and medium-sized enterprises. However, there are still various economic problems in the community such as limited capital, low access to markets, and lack of business management skills. These conditions make it difficult for the community to develop their businesses optimally. The purpose of writing this article is to analyze the role of cooperatives as a solution for community economic empowerment. The method used is a literature study by examining various relevant scientific sources.The study results show that cooperatives play a role in increasing access to capital, developing members' businesses, creating jobs, and improving community welfare. Therefore, cooperatives can become a solution in community economic empowerment if managed professionally and supported by active member participation.
