Abstract

This article examines the contribution of Ilmu Kalam (Islamic rational theology) in addressing contemporary issues from a theological perspective. As a discipline that emphasizes rational inquiry and theological reasoning, Ilmu Kalam offers a comprehensive conceptual framework for responding to the increasingly complex challenges of the modern world. This study investigates the relevance of its theological principles in addressing key contemporary issues, including social justice, environmental ethics, religious pluralism, and technological advancement. Using a qualitative approach based on library research and comparative analysis, the study analyzes the perspectives of contemporary Muslim theologians who reinterpret and contextualize classical Ilmu Kalam within present-day realities. The findings indicate that Ilmu Kalam continues to play a significant role in providing theological and ethical guidance for addressing contemporary moral and social challenges. Through the reinterpretation of classical theological concepts, Ilmu Kalam contributes to the development of inclusive, contextual, and value-based solutions that support the realization of a just, sustainable, and harmonious society. Therefore, Ilmu Kalam remains a relevant and dynamic intellectual tradition capable of responding to the evolving needs of contemporary civilization.
