Abstract

Catechists are lay people called by God to participate in Christ's mission of salvation. In practice, catechists exist amidst cyber-based pastoral communication. Pastoral communication is a form of God's presence, interpreted without the limits of space and time by all believers. This study seeks to examine the issue of cyber-based pastoral communication for catechists. This cyber-based communication is a new reality that the author examines to provide catechists with an understanding of the new elements in their pastoral work. Catechists need to understand the rules that need to be implemented in cyber-based pastoral communication. This study is based on three questions: How do catechists understand cyber-based pastoral communication? How do catechists utilize communication technology in their apostolic work? How do catechists build a new spirituality in cyber-based pastoral communication? These three problem formulations are used as a foundation for the author in presenting the novelty of this study. Furthermore, the study has a research method. This research was conducted using the library research method. In collecting data, the author conducted data collection by reviewing books, scientific journals, and Catholic Church documents that are relevant to the issues to be discussed. The author's data collection technique was carried out by reviewing and examining all sources obtained in the form of book texts, research journals and Catholic Church documents. The results of the discussion are in the form of a study of the existence of catechists in understanding cyber-based pastoral communication, a study of the use of communication technology by catechists in their apostolic work and a new spirituality model built by catechists in building cyber-based pastoral communication. The conclusion is in the form of the overall results of the discussion in a brief, systematic and logical manner.
