<![CDATA[This study examines Daud Ismail’s interpretation of Qur’anic verses concerning Muslim and non-Muslim relations in Tafsir Al-Munir with the aim of identifying the model of tolerance he developed and its relevance within Indonesia’s multicultural society. The study is motivated by the tendency of textual interpretations of interfaith verses to generate exclusivist attitudes and socio-religious conflict. This research employs a qualitative method using thematic Qur’anic interpretation (maudhu’i) and socio-historical analysis approaches. Primary data were obtained from Tafsir Al-Munir by Daud Ismail, while secondary sources include books, academic journals, and previous studies related to Nusantara exegesis and interreligious relations. The findings reveal that Daud Ismail formulates a moderate concept of tolerance through three main dimensions: tolerance in faith, worship, and socio-community relations. In the aspect of faith, he rejects all forms of religious coercion; in worship, he emphasizes clear boundaries between Islamic rituals and those of other religions; while in social relations, he promotes mutual respect, porhibits insulting other beliefs, and upholds humanitarian and justice values. This study concludes that Daud Ismail’s interpretation represents a contextual and moderate model of Nusantara exegesis that remains relevant in strengthening interreligious harmony in contemporary Indonesia.]]>
