The sexual violence case committed by I Wayan Agus Suartama has sparked a range of public reactions as it involves a perpetrator from a vulnerable group, namely a person with a disability. This study aims to analyse the discourse construction of person with disability as perpetrators of sexual violence in I Wayan Agus (Agus Buntung) case coverage on Tribunnews.com, specifically to examine the potential reproduction of stigma within the text. This study employs a qualitative approach using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, which encompasses textual dimensions, discursive practices, and sociocultural practices. The research subjects consist of five Tribunnews.com news articles published between 1–11 December 2024. The findings indicate that Tribunnews.com engages in labelling and stereotyping of people with disabilities, thereby perpetuating stigma that portrays disability as a source of pity and as dangerous individuals due to their disability. These practices shift public focus away from the victim’s traumatic experiences, leading to revictimisation. Tribunnews.com’s discourse construction is also influenced by an editorial approach that prioritises visibility through popular keywords, as well as a sociocultural context dominated by the medical model of disability, which views disability as a deficiency.
