Abstract

Motivated by the rapid expansion of the online gaming industry in Indonesia and the subsequent rise in in-game purchases, this study investigates the relationship between emotion regulation and impulse buying. Although such impulsive behavior is often attributed to psychological factors like emotion regulation, its specific impact on gamers requires further examination. Utilizing a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 135 Indonesian online gamers aged 18–25 through snowball sampling. The Impulse Buying Tendency Scale (IBTS) and the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (ERQ) were administered via an online survey, and the data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test. The results revealed no significant relationship between emotion regulation and impulse buying (r = -.007; p = .936). These findings suggest that emotion regulation is not a primary driver of impulsive in-game purchases among young adult gamers.
