<![CDATA[This study examines the use of deixis in the short story "Baluembidi" by Putra Hidayatullah using a pragmatic approach and descriptive qualitative method. Deixis refers to linguistic expressions whose interpretation depends on the context of utterance, including references to persons, places, and time. This study aims to identify the types of deixis found in the short story "Baluembidi", and analyze the functions of deixis in constructing meaning and narrative context. Data were collected through observation, note-taking, and free participatory techniques, then analyzed using pragmatic identity analysis. The results reveal that the short story contains five types of deixis: person deixis, place deixis, time deixis, discourse deixis, and social deixis. Person deixis is most dominant, appearing in the form of first, second, and third person pronouns in both singular and plural forms. Place deixis is realized through expressions such as "di sana" (over there), "ke sana" (toward there), and "di gunung itu" (in that mount), which not only indicate physical location but also reflect the social and psychological conditions of the characters. Overall, the use of deixis in this short story contributes significantly to the narrative structure, story setting, and the emotional bond between readers and the characters or events portrayed.]]>
