Abstract

Dance education plays an important role in supporting the holistic development of elementary school students. It is not limited to teaching students how to imitate dance movements, but also provides learning experiences that involve the body, emotions, creativity, and cultural understanding. This study aims to analyze the role of dance learning in developing the psychomotor, affective, and cognitive domains of elementary school students. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method, with fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 182 Pekanbaru as the research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, and performance tests. The results show that regular dance learning improves students’ movement coordination, balance, body flexibility, body control, and ability to adjust movements to musical rhythm. In the affective domain, dance learning encourages self-confidence, discipline, responsibility, cooperation, and appreciation of peers during the learning process. In the cognitive domain, students gain a better understanding of dance elements, movement patterns, spatial awareness, rhythm, and local cultural values. Therefore, dance learning can serve as an effective educational medium that supports students’ overall development through integrated physical, emotional, social, and cultural learning experiences
