ABSTRACT Low students' mathematical conceptual understanding of similarity topics indicates the need for a learning approach that helps students construct conceptual understanding gradually, actively, and meaningfully. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of the Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) approach in improving students' mathematical conceptual understanding and to examine the influence of learning motivation and student activeness on that ability. This research employed an experimental method using a posttest-only control group design. The sample consisted of 64 seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 1 Kalinyamatan in the 2025/2026 academic year, selected through cluster random sampling and assigned to an experimental class and a control class. Data were collected using a mathematical conceptual understanding test, a learning motivation questionnaire, and a student activeness observation sheet. The data were analyzed using normality and homogeneity tests, t-tests, as well as simple and multiple linear regression analyses. The findings revealed that learning through the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach enabled students to achieve both individual and classical learning mastery and produced significantly better mathematical conceptual understanding than conventional instruction. Furthermore, learning motivation and student activeness had significant positive effects, both individually and simultaneously, thereby strengthening the effectiveness of the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach in mathematics learning. These findings suggest that the Concrete Pictorial Abstract approach can be recommended as an alternative instructional approach to enhance students' mathematical conceptual understanding, particularly in learning similarity. ABSTRAK Rendahnya kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada materi kesebangunan menunjukkan perlunya pendekatan pembelajaran yang mampu membantu siswa membangun pemahaman konsep secara bertahap, aktif, dan bermakna. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis keefektifan pendekatan Concrete Pictorial Abstract (CPA) dalam meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa, serta mengkaji pengaruh keaktifan dan motivasi belajar terhadap kemampuan tersebut. Penelitian menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan desain posttest-only control group. Sampel penelitian terdiri atas 64 siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 1 Kalinyamatan Tahun Ajaran 2025/2026 yang dipilih menggunakan teknik cluster random sampling, kemudian dibagi ke dalam kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol. Data dikumpulkan melalui tes kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis, angket motivasi belajar, dan lembar observasi keaktifan siswa, kemudian dianalisis menggunakan uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, uji t, serta analisis regresi linear sederhana dan regresi linear ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran dengan pendekatan Concrete Pictorial Abstract mampu mencapai ketuntasan belajar secara individual maupun klasikal serta menghasilkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis yang lebih baik dibandingkan pembelajaran konvensional. Keaktifan dan motivasi belajar juga terbukti memberikan pengaruh positif, baik secara parsial maupun simultan, sehingga memperkuat efektivitas pendekatan Concrete Pictorial Abstract dalam pembelajaran matematika. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan Concrete Pictorial Abstract dapat direkomendasikan sebagai salah satu alternatif pembelajaran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa pada materi kesebangunan.
