Marga for the Batak people is an identity used to determine a person's status and role in society, thereby creating a sense of solidarity both socially, culturally and politically. So that the clan, as a guideline for the kinship system of the Batak tribe, becomes the basis of politics in general elections. This research is a descriptive research. The method used is qualitative, with data collection techniques using observation and in-depth interviews. The subjects in this research are legislative candidates for the 2019-2024 period in Humbang Hasundutan Regency, traditional leaders and the people of Humbang Hasundutan Regency. The results of the research show that the kinship system regulated in the Dalihan Natolu is a guide for the people of Humbang Hasundutan Regency in determining their choices. This kinship-based identity politics has consequences for society. These consequences can have positive impacts and can have negative impacts.
