Abstract

Stress is one of the main factors that can worsen the psychological condition of NAPZA (Narcotics, Psychotropics, and Addictive Substances) rehabilitation patients. One potential non-pharmacological intervention in reducing stress levels is physical activity such as aerobic exercise, which is known to increase endorphin production and improve mood. Objective: This study aims to determine the effect of aerobic exercise on stress levels in NAPZA rehabilitation patients at the Medan Plus Foundation. Method: This study used a pre-experimental one group pretest-posttest design. A total of 30 NAPZA rehabilitation patients participated in an aerobic exercise intervention for 4 weeks, each with 3 sessions per week, lasting 30 minutes per session. Stress levels were measured using the DASS questionnaire before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using paired Wilcoxon tests using SPSS version 26 software. Results: The results showed a significant decrease in stress levels after the intervention (p < 0.001). Before aerobic exercise, 66.66% of respondents were in the high stress category, and after the intervention, this figure decreased to 6.66%. Conversely, the number of patients with mild stress increased from 33.33% to 93.33% after the intervention. Conclusion: Aerobic exercise has been proven effective in reducing stress levels in drug rehabilitation patients. These findings indicate a recommendation for rehabilitation institutions to include aerobic exercise as part of their therapy program.
