Education does not merely function as a means of knowledge transfer but also as a process of character building, particularly at the elementary school level. However, learning practices that predominantly emphasize cognitive aspects have led to the low internalization of values such as honesty and patience among students. This study aims to examine the values of honesty and patience in the Balinese folktale Cupak and Gerantang and to analyze its relevance as a medium for teaching the Balinese language in elementary schools. This research employs a qualitative approach using a literature study method. Data were collected from the story text and relevant references, then analyzed through the identification and interpretation of character values. The findings indicate that the character Gerantang represents honesty and patience, while Cupak reflects the opposite traits. The use of folktales in learning effectively integrates language skills and character education in a contextual manner. Therefore, the folktale Cupak and Gerantang is an effective learning medium for fostering students character while preserving local culture.
