Immigration Detention Houses (Rudenim) are immigration institutions that play an important role in enforcing immigration law against foreign nationals who violate immigration regulations in Indonesia. In practice, Rudenim functions as a temporary detention facility for detainees before immigration administrative actions such as deportation or repatriation are carried out. However, the implementation of Rudenim’s functions still faces various problems that affect the effectiveness of immigration law enforcement. This study aims to analyze the problems related to the role of Immigration Detention Houses in enforcing immigration law in Indonesia and to identify efforts to optimize the function of Rudenim in supporting the effectiveness of immigration law enforcement. The research method used is normative legal research with statutory and conceptual approaches. Data were obtained through literature studies by reviewing laws and regulations, scientific journals, books, and other relevant legal sources. The results show that Rudenim has a strategic role in supporting immigration administrative actions against foreign nationals who violate the law. However, several obstacles remain, such as overcapacity, limited human resources, inadequate facilities and infrastructure, and the lengthy detention process that affect the effectiveness of immigration law enforcement. Therefore, optimization of Rudenim’s function is needed through strengthening regulations, improving officer capacity, and enhancing inter-agency coordination to support effective immigration law enforcement in Indonesia.
