<![CDATA[This study addresses the challenges faced by the younger generation in the digital era, such as declining nationalism, foreign cultural influences, and misaligned perceptions of national defense. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the level of understanding of national defense values among orphans before and after a socialization program, and to measure its impact on increasing nationalism and patriotism. Using a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design, data were collected through participant observation, unstructured interviews, and documentation involving 20 foster children aged from 3rd-grade elementary to 11th-grade high school at Panti Asuhan Putera Muhammadiyah Pekanbaru. The data were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results indicate that the socialization program, implemented through interactive lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, and educational games, significantly enhanced the participants' enthusiasm and understanding. The children successfully grasped that national defense in daily life can be practiced through simple actions, such as studying diligently, respecting others, maintaining environmental cleanliness, and fostering tolerance. Additionally, this community service activity provided valuable practical experience for the executing students in applying communication skills and public speaking. In conclusion, the interactive communication strategy effectively improves national awareness and character building among the youth in orphanages.]]>
