Many students who perform well academically still strugglewhen it comes to handling pressure, making friends, orsimply understanding their own emotions. This study wascarried out to get a clearer picture of where eighth gradestudents at UPT SMP Negeri 28 Gresik actually stand in terms of emotional intelligence. A Likert scale questionnairewith 25 items was used, covering five dimensions: self -awaraness, self - regulation, motivation, empathy, andsocial skills. All 33 students in Class VII F participated, andthe data were analyzed descriptively. The class averagecame out at 4.06 is include in teh Very Good category. Eighteen students (54,5%) are included in the Very Goodcategory and 15 students (45,5%) are included in the Goodcategory. Motivation stood out as the strongest dimension(mean 4,39), whereas self confidence turned out to be theweakest point at just 2,82. These findings suggest thatguidance and counseling program sat the school level needto pay closer attention to how students see themselves andhow they connect with others.
