<![CDATA[This article explains and analyzes the influence of Karawitan music on the social–emotional development of children who are members of Marsudi Kagunan Cultural Center, in Sragen and examines the role of the studio in preserving local traditions. The study employs a qualitative method, using interviews and participant observation as the primary data sources. The analysis adopts Alan P. Merriam’s theory of the functions of music, which emphasizes the social, emotional, and communicative roles of music. The findings reveal that active participation in Karawitan positively affects children, particularly by enhancing self-confidence, social skills, emotional regulation, and the development of responsibility and independence. Engagement in traditional activities such as wayang kulit, nyadran, and kenduren also strengthens cultural identity and fosters pride in local heritage. Despite challenges, including declining interest among younger generations and public criticism, Marsudi Kagunan Cultural Center functions as a center for character formation and identity development that supports children’s personal and social growth. This study confirms that traditional arts have significant potential as tools for education, empowerment, and social cohesion, positioning the studio as a model for safeguarding cultural heritage amid modernization.]]>
