Abstract

Family resilience is a fundamental foundation for human resource development. The increasing divorce rate in Indonesia highlights the need for family counseling services that are responsive to local cultural contexts. This study aimed to develop a hypothetical Nanga Tau Mahirete Counseling Model (KNTM) based on the cultural values of the North Halmahera community as a conceptual alternative for strengthening family resilience. This study represents the initial stage of Research and Development (R&D) using the Plomp model, focusing on the preliminary investigation and design phases. The preliminary investigation phase involved a literature review and an exploration of Nanga Tau Mahirete cultural values, while the design phase produced a hypothetical counseling model by integrating five main values, namely O’dora (love), O’hayangi (affection), O’baliara (care), O’adili (justice), and O’diai (truth), into Walsh’s family resilience dimensions, namely family belief systems, organizational patterns, and communication processes. The study resulted in a hypothetical KNTM model that positions local culture as a psychological and social resource in family counseling. Conceptually, the model has the potential to serve as a culturally responsive indigenous counseling approach for strengthening family resilience in the multicultural context of North Halmahera.
