This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Adiwiyata program based on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in improving students’ ecoliteracy, critical thinking skills, and environmental awareness at UPT SMP Negeri 26 Gresik. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent pretest–posttest control group design. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, consisting of class VII F as the experimental group and class VII A as the control group. The research instruments consisted of objective tests (pretest and posttest) and observation sheets that had been validated by experts. Data were analyzed using N-Gain and paired sample t-tests with the assistance of SPSS 21 for Windows. The results showed a significant improvement in students’ ecoliteracy, critical thinking skills, and environmental awareness after the implementation of the ESD-based Adiwiyata program. The average N-Gain scores were in the moderate to high categories, and the t-test results indicated a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 0.05, showing a significant difference between the experimental and control groups. Therefore, the implementation of the ESD-based Adiwiyata program is effective in developing students who possess ecological knowledge, critical thinking skills, and responsible attitudes toward environmental sustainability.
