THE INFLUENCE OF ROTE LEARNING ON STUDENTS' LEARNING MOTIVATION IN THE SUBJECT OF CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AND CHARACTER BUILDING AT SMP KATOLIK GONZAGA TOMOHON This study aims to determine how rote learning is applied, the level of students' learning motivation, and the extent of the influence of rote learning on students' learning motivation in the subject of Catholic Religious Education and Character Building at SMP Katolik Gonzaga Tomohon. This research used a quantitative method with a survey approach. The population consisted of 422 students from grades VII, VIII, and IX, with a sample of 312 students determined using the Slovin formula (5% margin of error). Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive analysis and simple linear regression. The results showed that the implementation of rote learning was in the good category (K = 0.680), students' learning motivation was also in the good category (K = 0.699), and there was a positive and significant influence of rote learning on students' learning motivation (R = 0.615; R² = 0.379; Sig. = 0.000). These findings indicate that 37.9% of the variation in students' learning motivation is explained by rote learning, while the remaining 62.1% is influenced by other factors outside the model.
