Background: Postoperative pain is a common problem that can delay the patient’s recovery process. Non-pharmacological therapy is needed as a complementary approach to pharmacological treatment, which may have side effects. Lavender aromatherapy is a non-pharmacological intervention that has the potential to reduce pain intensity. Purpose: To evaluate the effectiveness of lavender aromatherapy in reducing pain intensity among postoperative patients. Methods: Quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach without a control group. The sample consisted of 12 patients within the first 24 hours after surgery in the inpatient ward of RSUD dr. Tjitrowardojo Purworejo. Pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. The evaluation was conducted 30 minutes after the administration of lavender aromatherapy. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. Results: The mean pain score was 5,75 before the intervention and decreased to 3,00 after the intervention. Statistical analysis showed a p-value of 0,002 (p < 0,05), indicating a significant reduction in pain intensity after the interventions of lavender aromatherapy. Conclusion: Lavender aromatherapy is effective in reducing postoperative pain intensity and can be used as a non-pharmacological therapy in pain management.
