Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are one of the most common bacterial infections in children. Prolonged diaper use and poor parental knowledge can increase the risk of UTIs. Video-based education has the potential to improve mothers' knowledge regarding proper diaper use, diaper-free practices, and UTI prevention efforts in children. This study analyzed the effect of the BEBAS CERDAS educational video intervention on mothers' knowledge about preventing urinary tract infections in children aged 1–5 years at Hospital A. This study used a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 32 mothers were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Respondents received an intervention in the form of a 15-minute educational video for two days. Data were analyzed using the McNemar test. The proportion of mothers with good knowledge increased from 21.9% before the intervention to 93.8% after the intervention. The McNemar test results showed a significant difference in mothers' knowledge before and after the intervention (p < 0.001). The BEBAS CERDAS educational video has been shown to improve mothers' knowledge regarding proper diaper use, perineal hygiene, and urinary tract infection prevention in children. The BEBAS CERDAS educational video has significantly increased mothers' knowledge regarding proper diaper use, perineal hygiene, and urinary tract infection prevention in children aged 1–5 years. This educational video can be considered as a health education medium for parents in health promotion programs in hospitals.
