Contemporary Qur'anic studies increasingly seek to move beyond textual meaning and examine the substantive purposes of revelation, known as Maqashid al-Qur'an. This study examines Tafsir Surah al-Fatihah by KH. Zaini Mun'im using the concept of Maqashid al-Qur'an developed by al-Ghazali. The study employs qualitative library research using Jawahir al-Qur'an by al-Ghazali and Tafsir Surah al-Fatihah by KH. Zaini Mun'im as primary sources. Data were analyzed descriptively and analytically by identifying the concepts of jawahir, durar, and the six principal objectives of the Qur'an formulated by al-Ghazali, then relating them to KH. Zaini Mun'im's interpretation of Surah al-Fatihah. The findings show that the interpretation emphasizes three major orientations: knowledge of God (ta'rif al-mad'u ilayh), the spiritual path toward God (ta'rif tariq al-suluk ila Allah), and awareness of the hereafter (ta'rif al-hal 'inda al-wusul). These orientations are expressed through discussions of tauhid, rububiyyah, worship, hidayah, moral formation, and human responsibility. The findings indicate that al-Ghazali's Maqashid al-Qur'an provides a useful framework for understanding the theological, spiritual, and educational character of Madurese pesantren tafsir.
