Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and VO₂Max levels among female students of the Physical Education, Health, and Recreation Study Program (PJKR) at Universitas Negeri Medan. This study employed a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The sample consisted of 10 female students selected using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through measurements of height and weight to determine BMI values and the Multistage Fitness Test (Bleep Test) to measure VO₂Max levels. Data analysis used the Pearson Product Moment correlation test at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed a correlation coefficient of r = -0.604 with a significance value of 0.065 (>0.05). These findings indicate a negative tendency between BMI and VO₂Max levels, although the relationship was not statistically significant. The average BMI was categorized as normal at 22.9, while the average VO₂Max was 28.3 ml/kg/minute, categorized as moderate. Therefore, BMI is assumed to be related to cardiorespiratory fitness levels, although other factors such as physical activity, diet, and exercise intensity may also influence VO₂Max.
