Abstract

This study aims to determine the relationship between reading habits and the writing skills of elementary school students through the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. The study was conducted by collecting and reviewing various scientific articles related to reading habits and writing skills among elementary school students. Data sources were obtained from Google Scholar and several national educational journals relevant to the research topic. The articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria within the 2013–2023 period. Of the 30 articles identified, 15 articles were analyzed descriptively to obtain relevant findings. The results showed that reading habits have a positive relationship with students’ writing skills. Students with good reading habits tend to have broader vocabulary mastery, better understanding of language use, and greater ability to develop ideas in written form. In addition, support from teachers, parents, and the surrounding environment contributes to the development of students’ literacy culture. Differences in literacy facilities and access to reading materials in urban and rural areas also influence students’ reading and writing abilities. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that reading habits play an important role in improving elementary school students’ writing skills; therefore, a reading culture should be fostered from an early age through continuous literacy activities.
