<![CDATA[This study aims to describe the function of accompanying music in supporting the martial art of Kuntau in Tanjung Begelung Village, Tanggamus Regency. Kuntau emphasizes not only movement techniques but also aesthetic and cultural values reinforced through music. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews with trainers, martial artists, and musicians, supported by documentation data. Data analysis included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while validity was tested through source and method triangulation. Based on Merriam’s theory (1987), the functions of music include: (1) emotional expression as a source of motivation for practitioners; (2) entertainment to attract audiences; (3) communication as a signal for movements; (4) representation through opening melodies symbolizing honor; (5) social integration in creating solidarity; (6) norm enforcement through rules governing the use of music; (7) cultural education containing values and historical meanings; (8) physical response that facilitates movement in accordance with rhythm; (9) social validation within customary or ritual contexts; and (10) cultural preservation as a traditional heritage.]]>
