Abstract

The development of digital technology and the increasing use of social media among elementary school students has resulted in various types of fast content, namely content that is short, engaging, and easily accessible. This phenomenon raises concerns about children's cognitive development, particularly related to concentration, learning focus, reading interest, creativity, and critical thinking. Conversely, social media can be used as an interactive learning tool through engaging and easy-to-understand audiovisual content. This study aims to analyze the impact of fast content on the cognitive development of elementary school students. This study uses the literature study method according to Rahayu, which includes problem identification, literature collection, source selection, data analysis, and conclusion drawing. Research data was obtained from scientific journals, academic articles, and previous research related to the research topic. The research findings indicate that fast content has a positive impact, namely increasing creativity, facilitating information access, and increasing children's interest in learning through interactive audiovisual media. However, excessive use of social media also negatively affects concentration, learning focus, reading interest, and critical thinking skills, because children are more accustomed to receiving information quickly. The novelty of this research lies in its focus, which specifically analyzes fast social media content and its relationship to the cognitive development of elementary school students through a literature review approach, a topic rarely discussed in previous research. Therefore, the role of teachers and parents is crucial in supervising and assisting children in their use of social media to ensure they achieve optimal developmental benefits.
