<![CDATA[This research intends to outline the various types and purposes of expressive speech acts in Raditya Dika’s podcast episode titled “Secrets of Success in Jumbo Films,” as well as their relevance for high school students learning Indonesian. The study employs a qualitative method and adopts a descriptive framework. Findings reveal that a total of 50 expressive speech acts were identified, which include 43 acts of praise, 5 acts of gratitude, and 2 acts of congratulations. The predominant type is acts of praise, highlighting that the podcast conversation features a significant number of expressions related to admiration, appreciation, and positive evaluations regarding the Jumbo film, its creative development, and the individuals involved in its creation. On the other hand, acts of gratitude are utilized to convey thankfulness and recognition for the listener’s support and actions, while acts of congratulations express encouragement, hopes, and well-wishes for someone’s achievements. The implications of this research are relevant for Indonesian language lessons for eleventh graders, particularly in oral and audiovisual text content. Utilizing podcasts as a teaching tool can assist learners in grasping the contextual application of expressive speech acts, whilst also enhancing their speaking and listening skills in communication.
