Communication skills and child assistance are important aspects in supporting children's growth and development within the family environment. Effective communication helps build positive relationships between parents and children, while proper assistance supports children's social, emotional, and academic development. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of educational videos in improving communication and child assistance skills among housewives aged 30–44 years in Banten Street, Helvetia Village, Labuhan Deli District, Deli Serdang Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach using a one-group pretest-posttest design. The participants consisted of 9 housewives who attended training sessions using educational videos. Data were collected through questionnaires administered before (pretest) and after (posttest) the training. The indicators measured included understanding of effective communication with children, emotional support, learning assistance, problem-solving in child-related situations, and parental involvement in child development. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by comparing the mean pretest and posttest scores and calculating the percentage of improvement. The results showed that educational videos effectively improved participants’ understanding of communication and child assistance. The average pretest score was 62,22, while the average posttest score increased to 87,22. This represents an improvement of 25,00 points or 40,16%, indicating a positive change in participants’ understanding after the training. In addition, participants demonstrated a better understanding of positive communication practices, emotional support for children, and the importance of parental involvement in children's development. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that educational videos are effective in improving communication and child assistance skills among housewives. Therefore, educational videos can serve as an accessible and effective learning medium to support the improvement of parenting quality within families.
