This study aims to examine the use of social media among Muslim adolescents and its impact on the spirituality of ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 29 Muaro Jambi. The study was motivated by the high intensity of social media use among adolescents, which has the potential to produce both positive and negative effects on their spiritual lives. This research employed a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants consisted of ninth-grade students, an Islamic Religious Education teacher, and the principal of SMP Negeri 29 Muaro Jambi. Data analysis was carried out through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that the most frequently used social media platforms among students were Instagram and TikTok, with an average usage duration of 3–6 hours per day. Social media was used for various purposes, including entertainment, communication, information seeking, learning support, and accessing religious content. The positive impacts of social media on the spirituality of Muslim adolescents included increased religious knowledge, motivation to improve worship practices, Islamic motivation gained from da'wah content, greater awareness in performing religious obligations, and the development of better moral behavior in daily life. However, the study also found negative impacts, such as negligence in worship due to excessive social media use, scrolling addiction, and exposure to negative content that could influence students’ behavior and religious values.
