Abstract

This study was motivated by the low literacy skills of elementary school students, particularly in reading comprehension, and their lack of engagement in literacy activities. The study aims to develop an educational literacy-themed Snakes and Ladders game based on South Sulawesi folktales as a learning medium that can improve students’ literacy skills. This study employed the Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE development model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The developed product was validated by media and subject matter experts, then pilot-tested with elementary school students. Research data were collected through validation questionnaires and student response questionnaires, then analyzed descriptively using percentage calculations. The results indicate that the developed educational media meets the criteria for high suitability based on expert evaluations and received very positive feedback from students. The use of the story-based literacy snakes-and-ladders educational game, inspired by South Sulawesi folklore, enhances student engagement in literacy activities, fosters a love of reading, and helps students better understand the content of their reading materials. Thus, the developed educational media can serve as an innovative learning alternative to support literacy activities in elementary schools.
