Academic life in higher education exposes students to complex pressures that can trigger academic stress, anxiety, and depression, negatively impacting learning achievement. Although the urgency of mental health intervention is high, conventional face to face counseling services are often hindered by time constraints, disproportionate counselor ratios, and strong social stigma on campus. As an adaptive solution, cyber counseling based on messaging applications offers flexibility and guaranteed anonymity. This study aims to comprehensively examine the effectiveness of implementing messaging application and digital platform based cyber counseling in reducing student academic stress. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review by searching the Google Scholar and Garuda databases within the publication range of 2019 to 2026. Based on strict inclusion criteria, 20 relevant empirical scientific articles were obtained for analysis. The data synthesis results show that cyber counseling interventions, using both human to human manual text messaging and artificial intelligence based automated chat systems (AI chatbot), are proven to be highly effective in reducing students academic stress levels. Anonymity features become a key factor that increases student comfort to engage in self disclosure freely without fear of judgment. Emotional warmth and therapeutic relationships can still be firmly established in written communication through the counselors textual empathy skills. This study concludes that text based cyber counseling is an acceptable absolute solution to expand the reach of mental health services in higher education in the Society 5.0 era.
