<![CDATA[This study was motivated by the low fluency reading skills of second-grade students at SD Negeri 20 Piai, Padang City. These problems are indicated by: 1) low student interest in reading, 2) less varied teacher learning models, 3) many students still read by spelling and still stutter, 4) limited student vocabulary, 5) lack of accuracy of punctuation and intonation in reading, 6) reading activities tend to be done through shared reading activities, 7) lack of student motivation in learning to read. The purpose of this study is to describe the improvement in students' fluency reading skills using the Make a Match type cooperative learning model in second-grade students at SD Negeri 20 Piai, Padang City. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) using qualitative and quantitative approaches. The subjects of the study were teachers and 24 second-grade students at SD Negeri 20 Piai, Padang City. The results showed an increase in students' fluency reading skills. The average value of fluent reading skills increased from 72.08 with a completion percentage of 37.50% in cycle I meeting 1 to 77.08 with a completion percentage of 58.33% in cycle I meeting 2, and increased again to 83.96 with a completion percentage of 83.33% in cycle II. Thus, it can be concluded that the Make a Match type cooperative model can improve the fluent reading skills of second grade students in Elementary School.]]>
