This study was motivated by the low initial ability of first-grade elementary school students in memorizing Mandarin vocabulary due to the use of conventional and less varied teaching methods. This classroom action research (CAR) aimed to examine the effectiveness of using Mandarin children’s songs as a learning medium to improve students’ vocabulary mastery and to identify students’ responses toward its implementation. The study employed the Kemmis and McTaggart model conducted in two cycles involving 33 first-grade students of SDK BPK PENABUR Rengasdengklok as research participants. Data were collected through test instruments (pretest and posttest), observation sheets, response questionnaires, and documentation. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, indicated by the increase in the average score from 74.03 in the pretest to 84.52 in Cycle I, and further rising to 96.15 in Cycle II. Classical learning mastery also increased from 72.73% in the initial condition to 84.85% in Cycle I, eventually reaching 100% in Cycle II. This improvement was supported by the integration of song-based learning media, PowerPoint picture cards, and the Total Physical Response (TPR) method. Questionnaire results showed that 96.96% of students gave highly positive responses. The study concludes that children’s songs are effective in improving Mandarin vocabulary mastery among elementary school
