This study aims to determine: (1) whether there is an effect of the extensive interval training model on the improvement of VO₂max in track athletes at PELATKOT Gorontalo, (2) whether there is an effect of the fartlek training model on the improvement of VO₂max in track athletes at PELATKOT Gorontalo, and (3) which training model is more effective in improving VO₂max between the extensive interval training model and the fartlek training model. This research employed a comparative design, as it compares one variable with another. The population of this study consisted of 13 track athletes at PELATKOT Gorontalo. The sampling technique used was total sampling; therefore, all members of the population were included as the research sample. The sample was divided into two groups: 7 athletes in the extensive interval training group and 6 athletes in the fartlek training group. Data collection was conducted using the 15-minute Balke test. The data analysis technique used was the t-test, processed with SPSS for Windows Version 25.The results of the study indicate that: (1) the improvement of VO₂max in track athletes using the extensive interval training model resulted in a mean value of 43.11 with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < α 0.05; (2) the improvement of VO₂max using the fartlek training model resulted in a mean value of 43.78 with a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 < α 0.05; and (3) there is no significant difference between the extensive interval training model and the fartlek training model in improving VO₂max, as indicated by the significance value (2-tailed) of 0.806 > α 0.05. Therefore, it can be concluded that Ha is rejected and Ho is accepted, indicating that the hypothesis is not supported.
