This research aims to determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning learning model on students' understanding and independence in science subjects at UPTD SDN Patemon. The type of research used is quantitative research with a one group pretest posttest design method. Data collection techniques use questionnaires and questions. For the validity of the instrument, validity and reliability tests are used, while the data analysis methods used are normality test, paired sample t-test, and MANOVA test. Based on the paired sample t-test of learning understanding that has been tested, the average mean data on the pretest learning understanding is 35.42 and the posttest value of learning understanding is 80.00 and the data has a significant value of 0.000 <0.05 so it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning learning model on learning understanding. Based on the paired sample t-test for learning independence, the average mean data for the pretest for learning independence was 25.67, while the average value for the posttest for learning independence was 35.63 and a significant value of 0.000 <0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning learning model on learning independence. The third test results from the MANOVA test simultaneously/together obtained a value of 0.000 <0.05 so it can be concluded that there is an influence of the Problem Based Learning learning model on students' understanding and learning independence simultaneously/together.
