Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is a social problem that frequently occurs in society and requires serious attention, particularly from parents as the primary agents in controlling children's behavior within the family environment. In Dusun Sukamanah, Tangerang Regency, various forms of juvenile delinquency are still found, such as lack of discipline, disobedience to parental advice, and behavior that does not align with family rules and prevailing social norms. This condition highlights the importance of parents in building strong social bonds with their children as an effort to prevent deviant behavior. This study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach, using data collection techniques such as interviews and direct field observations. The research subjects consist of parents aged 35–50 years who act as primary caregivers, as well as adolescents aged 10–18 years, both male and female, selected using purposive sampling based on their involvement in parenting and indications of delinquent behavior among adolescents. Based on the social control theory proposed by Travis Hirschi, juvenile delinquency may occur due to weak social bonds between individuals and their families and communities, which include emotional attachment, commitment, involvement, and belief in norms. The findings show that parents in Dusun Sukamanah apply both persuasive and coercive social control approaches to strengthen their bonds with their children; however, the implementation still faces obstacles stemming from parental limitations as well as environmental influences.
