Abstract

Community life in Talian Kereng Village holds diverse potentials that can be developed through youth engagement, the enhancement of activities for children and teenagers, and a shared commitment to environmental care. Throughout the community service process, several areas for enhancement were identified, particularly regarding the sustainability of youth institutions, productive opportunities for children, youth religious activities, and cleanliness management around the area. This community service initiative was carried out by the 2026 Regular Community Service (KKN) students of IAKN Palangka Raya using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework structured into four stages: To Understand, To Plan, To Action, and To Reflection. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with village officials and community leaders, a Village Assembly (Musdes), Focus Group Discussions (FGD) employing problem identification and analysis, field documentation, and collective reflection. The activities resulted in the strengthening of the Karang Taruna youth organization through committee formation and formal validation via a Village Head Decree, the revival of the Seksi Pelayanan Pemuda Remaja (SPRP) fellowship, basic literacy-numeracy (calistung) mentorship for elementary school pupils, keyboard music lessons, the construction and placement of six waste-sorting units made from recycled steel drums, and educational campaigns on character building and healthy living habits. These outcomes demonstrate that the PAR approach effectively fosters collaborative spaces among community members, youth, village government, schools, and students to sustainably advance local potential.
