Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of peers in shaping students’ religious behavior. The research employed a qualitative approach using observation and interview techniques with several university students. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that peers have a significant influence on students’ religious behavior. A positive peer environment can shape worship habits, increase religious motivation, and provide social support in practicing religious values. Students in religious peer groups tend to be more active in religious activities and remind each other to worship. In contrast, less religious social environments may reduce students’ religious behavior through peer conformity processes. Besides external factors, religious behavior is also influenced by internal factors such as self-control, spiritual awareness, and religious understanding. Therefore, students need to choose positive peer environments to maintain consistent religious behavior in daily life.
