Abstract

Spodoptera frugiperda in agroecosystems are challenged by predatory insects. There are reports of predatory insects attacking S. frugiperda on maize plants in various parts of Indonesia. The purpose of this study was to identify most abundant predators, diversity, and dominance of diurnal predatory insects fo S. frugiperda on corn plants in Kulon Progo Regency. The research was conducted from April to October 2025 in maize fields from 12 sub-districts in Kulon Progo Regency. Each sub-district sampling was done in on maize field in on village. The determination of villages as sampling locations used the multistage method, while maize fields were determined using the purposive method. The data analysis used was a correlation test between the abundance of diurnal predators and abiotic factors measured at the sampling sites, and PCA was used to detect major environmental variables associated with diurnal predators abundance. Biodiversity data were analysed using the Shannon–Wiener index, while species dominance was analysed using the Simpson index. Results showed that there were 18 species of diurnal S. frugiperda predatory insects, with the most abundant species belonging to the Coccinellidae family. Correlation analysis between species abundance and abiotic factors showed no significant relationship. The level of predator species diversity was moderate (H′ = 2.214), while the level of species dominance was low (D = 0.163).
