Artificial Intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming education, environmental governance, and sustainable economic development worldwide. This study investigated the relationship between AI-driven environmental education, behavioural transformation, and sustainable economic development in Nigeria. A mixed-method explanatory design was employed, combining survey questionnaires and semi-structured interviews across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones. The study involved 1,200 respondents, including teachers, university lecturers, environmental officers, ICT professionals, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and students. Data were analysed using descriptive statistics, multiple regression, and thematic analysis. Findings revealed that AI-driven environmental education significantly enhances environmental awareness, eco-friendly behavioural intentions, and participation in sustainable economic activities. Regression results further demonstrated that AI-supported environmental learning positively predicts behavioural change and sustainable economic development. Thematic analysis indicated that machine learning, adaptive learning platforms, predictive environmental analytics, and intelligent tutoring systems can strengthen climate literacy, digital sustainability competencies, and environmental decision-making. However, inadequate digital infrastructure, limited digital literacy, unstable electricity supply, and policy inconsistency remain significant barriers to effective AI adoption. The study concludes that integrating AI into environmental education can accelerate Nigeria’s progress toward SDGs 4, 8, 9, 11, 12, and 13 through strategic policy reforms, institutional investment, capacity building, and sustained stakeholder collaboration nationwide
