<![CDATA[The Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) has a status of privilege; however, its existing autonomous authority is considered suboptimal, particularly in vital sectors such as natural resource management (NRM) and education. This research aims to analyze the urgency and implications of granting broader autonomy rights to DIY to encompass the management of NRM and education in order to enhance community welfare. The method used is normative legal research with a statute approach and a conceptual approach. The research data are sourced from primary legal materials, such as legislation, and secondary legal materials in the form of academic literature, which are then analyzed qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that the concept of asymmetric decentralization has a strong legal foundation; however, its implementation in various regions in Indonesia, including DIY, is often hindered by weak governance, lack of transparency, and ineffective budget management. Literature studies reveal that the contribution of special autonomy funds to community welfare has not been maximized due to these implementation constraints. Based on these findings, it is concluded that expanding the legal authority of DIY is not a singular solution. The success of such autonomy expansion heavily depends on fundamental improvements in the accountable governance model. The key is to establish a transparent and participatory system to ensure that the expanded authority can genuinely enhance the prosperity of the Yogyakarta community.]]>
