Sleep disturbances are common among older adults and may reduce physical function, psychological well-being, and daily activity. Non-pharmacological interventions are needed because prolonged use of hypnotic medication may create unwanted effects in older people. This literature review aimed to analyze the effect of Benson relaxation therapy on sleep quality among older adults. Articles were searched through Google Scholar and ResearchGate using Indonesian and English keywords related to sleep quality, older adults, and Benson relaxation. The search was conducted on 6-9 March 2023. Articles published after 2017, available in full text, written in Indonesian or English, and examining Benson relaxation in older adults with sleep problems were included. From 575 identified records, five studies met the eligibility criteria. The included studies used quasi-experimental or pre-experimental designs and mainly assessed sleep quality with the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. All five studies reported statistically significant improvement after Benson relaxation, with p values below 0.05. The proportion of participants with good sleep quality also increased after intervention across the reviewed studies. Benson relaxation may therefore be considered a simple, low-cost, and feasible complementary intervention to support sleep quality in older adults.
