Based on the 2023 Indonesian Health Survei, dental and oral health issues remain a public health problem in Indonesia. One of the causes is dental plaque. The preliminary study results conducted on 10 students of Junior High School 12 Banjarbaru showed that 9 students had a plaque score index and 1 students in the moderate plaque score indeks. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of chewing pears (Pyrus communis) and Banjar siamese oranges (Citrus nobilis var. Microcarpa) on plaque score index in grade VII and VIII students of Junior High School 12 Banjarbaru. This Analytical study employed a Two Group Pretest-Posttest Design, using Total Sampling and analyzed with the Mann-Whitney U Test. The results showed that the difference in plaque score reduction between chewing pears was 2,02 and chewing Banjar siamese oranges was 1,98. The Mann-Whitney U Test showed an Asymp. Sig.(2-tailed) value 0f 0,000 (p < 0,05), indicating a statistically significant effect. In conclusion, chewing pears (Pyrus communis) and Banjar siamese oranges (Citrus nobilis var. Microcarpa) was effective in reducing the plaque score index in grade VII and VIII students of Junior High School 12 Banjarbaru. I tis recommended that the community and students of Junior High School 12 Banjarbaru cosume fiber-rich and water rich fruits as an effort to help maintain dental and oral hygiene.
