<![CDATA[Diuretics are drugs used to increase urinary excretion; however, long-term use of synthetic diuretics may cause adverse effects. Therefore, alternatives derived from natural sources are needed, one of which is sambau grass (Eleusine indica (L.) Gaertn.), which has potential diuretic activity. This study aimed to determine the secondary metabolite content and the effectiveness of sambau grass ethanol extract as a diuretic in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). The study employed a laboratory experimental method using a Posttest Only Control Group Design. The experimental animals were divided into five groups: a negative control group (0.5% CMC-Na), a positive control group (furosemide), and three groups receiving sambau grass ethanol extract at doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight. The observed parameter was cumulative urine volume over 24 hours, which was analyzed using One-Way ANOVA followed by the Tukey HSD test. The results showed that sambau grass ethanol extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, steroids/triterpenoids, and glycosides. The mean cumulative urine volumes at doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kg body weight were 8.14 ± 2.77 mL, 7.80 ± 2.25 mL, and 9.56 ± 2.47 mL, respectively. All three doses demonstrated relatively similar diuretic activity. Thus, sambau grass ethanol extract exhibits diuretic activity in male white rats (Rattus norvegicus).]]>
