Abstract

Sayangheulang Beach, located in Garut Regency, features a diverse intertidal zone that plays a crucial role in maintaining coastal ecosystem balance. The area serves as an important habitat for marine hydrophytes and various macrozoobenthos, whose interactions are essential for understanding ecological dynamics. This study examines the biodiversity of marine hydrophytes and their relationship with macrozoobenthos at Sayangheulang Beach in Pameungpeuk District. Data was collected in three days using line transect and quadrat methods at two stations (east and west). Environmental parameters, including temperature, salinity, depth, and brightness, were measured. Diversity analysis utilized the Shannon-Wiener index, Simpson's dominance index, and evenness index, with Spearman's correlation applied to explore relationships between variables. Results indicated that both hydrophytes and macrozoobenthos exhibited moderate to high levels of biodiversity, characterized by low dominance and high evenness, suggesting a stable community. The data showed that the hydrophytes community was dominated by the Phaeophyceae class, and the macrozoobenthos was dominated by Gastropods. Interestingly, the correlation test revealed a low association between brown macroalgae and macrozoobenthos at the eastern station. This implies that hydrophytes and macrozoobenthos can coexist independently, forming intricate ecological interactions in the intertidal zone of Sayangheulang Beach.
